Some information about Diwali Festival

Diwali is a post – harvest festival. Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists, notably Newar Buddhists. The festival usually lasts five days and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month kartika.

Why Diwali is celebrated?

Diwali celebrates Rama’s eventual defeat of evil spirit Ravana, and his triumphant return to his home. The business community considers it an auspicious time to start new ventures, as the festival coincides with the Hindu New Year

Diwali also honors the Hindu goddess of wealth Lakshmi. The lights and lamps are said to help Maa lakshmi to find her way into peoples’ homes bringing prosperity in the year to come.

In the eastern region of India like, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Tripura etc. People worship the goddess Kali, the destroyer of evil forces during Diwali. And in Nepal ( a country bordering North – East India ), people celebrate Lord Krishna’s victory over the wicked king Narakaasura.
