MAHA SHIVA RATRI POEM

Mahashivaratri means the grand night of Lord Shiva
Also known as Mahashivaratri or Shivaratri festival
Mahashivaratri festival marks the wedding day
Wedding of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati
Some legends say – on this auspicious day
Lord Shiva performed “TANDAVA”
The dance of primal creation, preservation and destruction.

As per the “Linga Purana”, it is stated
On Mahashivaratri, Lord Shiva manifested
Manifested himself in the form of “LINGA”
This day is extremely auspicious
All the incidents make it a Mahashivaratri
The grand night of Lord Shiva.

In the Hindu month of Falguna
On the moonless 14th night of the new moon
Which generally corresponds to month of March in English Calendar
This day devotees observe as Mahashivaratri
Observe fast throughout the day and night
Honour Lord Shiva with visits to Shiva temples
Do the ritual bath of Shiva Lingam
Bathe Lingas with milk, water, honey, belpatra, flowers etc.
To please the Lord Mahadeva for peace and prosperity
And dispel darkness and ignorance.

Let us all pray to the Almighty, Lord Mahadeva
Let us take his help and blessings for a better world
To create peace and prosperity for ourselves as well as for others
Oh! Almighty Mahadeva, oh! Lord Shiva
We are your children, help us to prosper
Bless us for new strength to inspire others
Help us to contribute to build new world order.
